(A Horse Show Ribbon)
Glazed porcelain with gold and platinum
3 pieces, 18" x 10 1/2" x 7"

     A young friend of mine is passionate about riding--all the trophies and ribbons in her bedroom remind her of the sacrifices it takes to win. Kathryn rides a few different horses and notates their names on their ribbons. This prize was won by Spectacular, her favorite horse. Alongside the ribbon, as if just tossed down are Kathryn's velvet helmet, leather gloves and crop.

"You deliver a humble people,
but your eyes are upon the haughty to bring them down.
Indeed, you are my lamp, O Lord,
the Lord lightens my darkness.
By you I can crush a troop,
and by my God I can leap over a wall.
This God--his way is perfect;
the promise of the Lord proves true;
he is a shield for all who take refuge in him."

-2 Samuel 22:28-31 (from King David's Song of Praise)

"In a race, everyone runs but only one person gets first prize. So run your race to win. To win the contest you must deny yourselves many things that would keep you from doing your best. An athlete goes to all this trouble just to win a blue ribbon or a silver cup, but we do it for a heavenly reward that never disappears."

-1 Corinthians 9:24-26 (Living Bible)
