In elementary school, Valentine's Day was a legitimate excuse for gorging on candy and fru-fru. Shoeboxes were converted into valentine mailboxes by layers of stuff, gussied up like some Rococo reliquary, full of fatuous promises friendship and everlasting love.
A friend asked me to make a heart-themed sculpture for his daughter's birthday, which falls on Valentine's Day. He wanted to personalize the conversation hearts, using Spanish words on several of them. We had a good time pairing up words for the front and back of a big bagful of hearts--100 of them--to show the "abundance of heart" ....as in
