Pass It On ©1993 Ginger Henry Geyer glazed porcelain (old junior football well used by a father and son) 5 1/4" x 10" x 5 1/4" This football was my first commission, requested by a father for his son. Since the boy was young, the two of them have tossed a football around. Over the years the skill for getting the spin just right, the power that sent the ball farther afield, and the agility to catch a wayward toss passed from the father to the son. When the young man came home from college, he would go to his closet and retrieve his old Junior football, and Dad would join him in the front yard for yet another wordless game of bonding. For the son's graduation from law school, the father needed something personal and special. The title is borrowed from a favorite song by Kurt Kaiser, "Pass it On". Inscriptions on the football refer to these scriptures: O sing unto the Lord a new song: for he hath done marvellous things; his right hand, and his holy arm hath gotten him victory. (Psalm 98:1) ...the Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. (John 3:35) Unfortunately, in 2005, the grandkids put the trompe l'oeil porcelain to a test, and somebody dropped the pass...so it may be time for another football!
